Step One: Conceding Defeat – A Prep Tool

Audience: people working the Steps · Format: printable HTML · step-one-conceding-defeat.html

Opening line of Step One: “We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.” This guide walks you through Big Book reading assignments (Doctor’s Opinion through We Agnostics), the threefold illness (body, mind, spirit), and paired Scripture reflections on Romans 7:18 and 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV), aligned with the Stand-To! Coaching Biblical Blueprint for Step One.

You will also find journal prompts on conceding to your innermost self and on reservations, plus a week of suggested practice. The full file includes header and footer placeholders for your group or ministry branding.

Please download or open the full document. The complete prep tool is not meant to be read only in this short preview. Open it in a new tab, then use Print > Save as PDF (or your browser’s equivalent) if you want a file on your device.

The Treatment Playbook

Audience: family members supporting someone in treatment or early recovery · Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) · TheTreatmentPlaybook.docx

This playbook is offered as a free download for families: spouses, parents, adult children, and others walking alongside someone who is getting honest about substance use. It is meant to give practical language and perspective, not to replace Al-Anon, therapy, or your own spiritual community.

Open the file in Word (or another compatible app), read at your pace, and use what fits your situation. If something does not fit, set it aside. The goal is support and clarity, not more pressure on you.
