About the coach
Truth is more valuable than comfort.
I will challenge you. You will challenge me. That’s how iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17).
I have spent decades walking into hard situations, both on the job and in life. As a man in long-term recovery myself, I know the guilt, the shame, and the fierce desire to stop the cycle for good. I was unable to solve my problem on my own. Although I was a believer in Christ, I was unable to, on my own, apply simple Biblical principles and instructions in a way that freed me from my obsession with alcohol. I needed someone to show me how. I needed a coach.
Today I have a life I would not have dared to picture back then. My role now is straightforward: help you cut through denial, name what is true, and do the work that supports long-term sobriety.
Why Stand-To?
Stand-To sounds military because it is: a fixed time to check gear, check each other, and face the day on purpose. Coaching does that in civilian life: rhythms, reflection, and contact so relapse does not catch you in the blur between “I’m fine” and “I already decided.”
Who I am, in plain terms
The record matters more than any claim I could make. Here is the short version.
I have the formal training: an A.A.S. in Substance Abuse Counseling. The degree gave me “man’s” best understanding of addiction and remission.
I have the experience: sober since January 1994, and years of walking alongside men through the same kind of program I’m offering you: honesty, accountability, and freedom. I didn’t watch from the sidelines; I did the work, and I’ve helped others do it too.
Being an Army vet and Fire/EMS Officer has taught me how to lead others into difficult situations. That background has also taught me that together we can do difficult things, and that doing “the next right thing” is always the easiest action to take.
By practicing the principles outlined in this program, God has been generous beyond what I deserve: I’ve been married to my wife, Shelley, since March of 1991. We have four grown children, all doing well on their own paths. I don’t parade that to boast. I offer it as fruit. Long-term sobriety and a whole family life don’t happen by accident.
Joy and seriousness are not opposites. Recovery is not only grim determination, it is learning to live clean, useful, and present again.
If that sounds like the kind of straight, mutual, Bible-centered work you’re willing to take on, I’d be glad to explore whether we’re a fit.

I only take a limited number of clients. I need to know you’re serious before we start. The next step is a confidential inquiry, then a 15-minute fit call when we may be a match.
